Vietnam cooperates with the EU to build a diversified agricultural products and food supply chain

According to the Vietnam News Agency, Janusz Wojciechowski, Commissioner of agriculture of the European Commission, held working talks with Nguyen Hung Yen, Minister of industry and trade of Vietnam, during his working visit to Vietnam. Both sides agreed that the economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and the EU should be further promoted under the background of the increasingly complex and volatile market environment, which makes it imperative to ensure sustainable supply chain and food security.
Minister Ruan Hongyan welcomed the positive role played by the Vietnam Europe free trade agreement (evfta) in promoting bilateral trade. It is worth mentioning that the export of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products, which enjoy great preferences in the evfta agreement, also achieved high growth.
At the meeting, Minister Ruan Hongyan suggested that the EU should continue to provide technical and financial support to Vietnam to effectively implement bilateral cooperation plans and projects related to capacity-building and production modes that meet EU standards.
Vietnam welcomes EU enterprises to invest in agricultural products processing, high-tech agriculture towards circular economy, green transformation, adaptation to climate change and other fields.
According to the data of Vietnam General Administration of customs, in the first five months of 2022, the import and export volume of goods between Vietnam and the European Union reached US $26.25 billion, an increase of 15%year-on-year. Among them, Vietnam’s export to the EU market was 19.59 billion US dollars; Imports from the EU market amounted to US $6.65 billion.
It is worth noting that Vietnam’s exports to most markets of the European Union grew well. Vietnam’s exports to many large markets in the EU have achieved double-digit growth. (end)
