In recent years, the State Council has successively issued the outline of the”healthy China 2030″ plan and the national nutrition plan 2017-2030, making important arrangements for national health and nutrition. The government has paid more attention to national nutrition year by year. The national nutrition plan 2017-2030 focuses on”promoting the standardized application of formula foods for special medical purposes and therapeutic diets. Further research and improve the standard of formula foods for special medical purposes, refine product classification, and promote the R & D and production of formula foods for special medical purposes”. The outline of the”healthy China 2030″ plan mentioned that”establish and improve the residents’ nutrition monitoring system, and implement nutrition intervention in key areas and key populations”; By 2030, the goal of”significantly improving residents’ nutritional literacy and significantly reducing the incidence of nutritional deficiency diseases” will be achieved.
Food partner network has long been concerned about the pre packaged product information circulating in the market in China. After years of monitoring and collecting product information, food partner network”food and beverage product database” has a large number of new product data information. Over the years, the food and beverage product database has accumulated 200 + formula foods for special medical purposes (including pre registration and post registration), and collated all the information on the product label in different fields, which can easily and quickly find the product related information.
As of June 2022, a total of 81 products of formula food for special medical purposes have been registered and approved in China (excluding 4 products that have issued approval documents but have not published corresponding information).
01 enterprise distribution
Among the 81 registered formula foods for special medical purposes, 34 enterprises are involved. Among them, Nestle has the most products, with 11 products; Followed by Abbott, there are 8 products, including 5 products each from newdihia, Hengrui health, Shengyuan and Jilin Maifu.
02 domestic/overseas distribution
Among the 81 registered formula foods for special medical purposes, there are 52 domestic formula registrations, accounting for 64%of all formula registrations; 29 overseas formulas were registered, accounting for 36%. It can be seen that the number of domestic formulas registered is more than 1.5 times that of overseas formulas.

03 category distribution
Among the 81 registered formulas for special medical purposes, there are 36 infant formulas for special medical purposes, accounting for 44%of the total; There are 45 special medical purpose formula foods suitable for people over 1 year old, accounting for 56%of the total.

3.1 distribution of special medical infant formula (under 1 year old)
Among the 36 registered infant formulas for special medical purposes, premature or low birth weight infant formulas are the most, with 12 products, accounting for 33%of the infant formulas for special medical purposes; The second is lactose free formula or low lactose formula, with 10, accounting for 28%of such products; There are 6 formulas of partial hydrolysis of milk protein, accounting for 17%of such products.

3.2 distribution of special medical formula food (over 1 year old)
Among the 45 registered formulas for special medical purposes over the age of 1 year, non fully nutritious formulas are the most, with 25, accounting for 56%of the special medical formulas over the age of 1 year; The second is full nutrition formula food, with 20 types, accounting for 44%of such products. At present, there is no registration of specific full nutrition formula food in China.

Among the 25 non fully nutritious formula foods, there are 11 electrolyte formulas, accounting for 44%of the non fully nutritious formula foods; The second is carbohydrate components, with 8 products, accounting for 32%of such products; There are 4 protein components, accounting for 16%of such products; There are two formulas for amino acid metabolism disorders, accounting for 8%of such products.

With the standardization of policies, more scientific research investment and more products entering the market, people gradually understand the formula food for special medical purposes, and the use of medical institutions is more standardized. The formula food industry for special medical purposes will certainly become the next blue ocean of medicine.
