South Africa revises the alcohol products act

On July 8, 2022, the Ministry of agriculture and rural development of South Africa issued Notice No. 2247 in the official gazette of South Africa (No. 46681), amending the Alcohol Products Act (1989). The main amendments include:(1) the words”tequila” or”mescal” shall not be used without authorization; (2) The definition, characteristics and alcohol content of Mead, fruit wine, absinthe, rum, gin and other wines are specified; (3) All kinds of alcohol labels and containers are specified. The notice shall be implemented from the date of issuance.
