Slovenia issues regulations on organic production and processing of agricultural products or food

On July 18, 2022, the Slovenian government officially announced the regulation on organic production and processing of agricultural products or food (Announcement No.:2020-2330-0031). The regulations specify in detail the methods and procedures of organic production or processing, the transportation of agricultural products or food, the conditions for labeling and using organic labels, the certification management system, the technical and organizational conditions that must be met by the certification body implementing organic agricultural products or food, the certification of organic agricultural products or food from a third country, the violations of organic agricultural products and food agricultural certification, the violations of certification organizations, and the punishment measures, Marketing and labeling of organic agricultural products and food. The regulation also specifically stipulates the areas suitable for organic beekeeping and beekeeping certification for the country’s characteristic beekeeping industry. The second chapter of the regulation is about the organic breeding industry. The regulation stipulates the breeding quantity per unit pasture, and lists the country’s characteristic chicken varieties as the varieties suitable for organic poultry breeding. The regulation takes effect five days after its promulgation, and the former Slovenian regulation on measures for handling violations of organic agriculture (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 96/14) is invalid.
