Communication academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, director of the experimental hydrological Ecology Laboratory of the Institute of Biophysics Mikhail gradsev, director of the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem teaching and Research Office of Siberian Federal University, said:”for humans, fish and seafood are the main sources of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). As we all know, they can well protect the cardiovascular system. In addition, omega-3 can improve brain activity, restore normal memory and improve learning ability.”

In 2018, researchers from the Krasnoyarsk Science Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Federal University of Siberia found that among all known wild fish, tamer Lake narrow body red spot salmon had the highest content of omega-3 fatty acids. At the same time, eating fish with high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids can prevent cardiovascular disease. Before that, people thought that marine fish was the most beneficial.

Now, experts plan to start studying the possibility of breeding wild fish under intensive aquaculture conditions and then providing them to consumers. Alexander kolomeitsev, associate doctor and associate professor of biological sciences and vice president of scientific research at Krasnoyarsk National Agricultural University, said that mass reproduction might begin in two to three years. Experts have extracted fish seeds twice and sent them to Krasnoyarsk via Norilsk. Now the salmon is growing in the cage, and the company’s employees are studying the economic benefits of scientific research achievements in practice.

Kolomeitsev stressed:”we have proved that it is possible to establish a cycle of creating and breeding salmon stocks and adapting them to the water environment around Krasnoyarsk. Entering aquaculture is a national task:it is a matter of food security and providing high-quality food to our people. Therefore, we are preparing a large project, hoping to be included in the federal agenda.”
