Peruvian orange exports plummeted 82%in the first half of the year

Oranges are the largest and most productive citrus fruits in Peru. In 2020, the planting area of oranges in Peru was about 29000 hectares, accounting for 37.5%of the total planting area of oranges. The output of oranges reached 553000 tons, which is equivalent to that of oranges.
From January to June, the export volume totaled 269 tons, and the export volume was only 226000 US dollars. Compared with the same period last year, the export volume of oranges decreased by 82%and the export volume decreased by 71%. At the same time, the average price of Peruvian oranges in the international market also fell by 59%, to only US $0.84/kg.
The main export destination of Peruvian oranges is Ecuador in South America, accounting for 57%of the total export volume. The second is the United States, accounting for 22%, and Colombia, accounting for 6%.
Ecuador imported 158 tons of Peruvian oranges at the price of 107000 US dollars, with the import volume reduced by 25%and the value reduced by 19%compared with 2021. The United States imported 33 tons of Peruvian oranges at the price of 32000 US dollars, with the import volume increasing seven times, and the average price falling by 20%to 0.96 US dollars/kg.
