Jilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences has made new progress in the breeding of high oleic acid peanut

As one of the important oil crops in China, peanut plays an important role in agricultural production. In recent years, the peanut industry has developed steadily in our province, with an average annual planting area of about 4million mu.
 
High oleic acid peanut is rich in unsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid content ≥ 75%), while the saturated fatty acid content is low (palmitic acid content ≤ 5%), which is more conducive to human health, and the products processed with high oleic acid peanut have a longer shelf life, which is the main direction of peanut production and consumption in the future. In the early stage, because there were no registered high oleic acid peanut varieties in our province, the introduction of high oleic acid peanut varieties often caused uneven seedling emergence, yield decline, quality decline and other phenomena due to low temperature damage.
 
The peanut germplasm resources research team and peanut cultivation and cultivation research team of the Peanut Research Institute of our academy have bred, identified and screened a number of new high oleic acid peanut lines suitable for planting in our province through artificial cross breeding methods for many years. In June 2022, two new peanut varieties, Jihua 25 [GPD peanut (2022) 220087] and Jihua 26 [GPD peanut (2022) 220088], passed the registration of non major crops by the Ministry of agriculture and rural areas, filling the gap of high oleic acid peanut varieties in our province.
 
The successful cultivation of new high oleic peanut varieties Jihua 25 and Jihua 26 has changed the current situation of the lack of high oleic peanut varieties in Jilin Province and provided a strong guarantee for the production of high oleic peanut in Jilin Province.
