Paraguay’s national newspaper reported on July 10 that the national animal quality and health service (senacsa) reported that in the first half of this year, Paraguay’s exports of pork, pig offal and offal totaled 935 tons, including 366 tons of pork and 569 tons of pig offal and offal. The total export volume of pork products decreased by 65%from 2660 tons in the same period in 2021. During the same period, the export value of pork products was US $1.7 million, a decrease of 63%compared with us $4.7 million in 2021.
Senacsa data show that 80%of Paraguay’s pork exports are sold to Uruguay, followed by Georgia, accounting for 17%. Armenia is a new market for Paraguay’s pork products, accounting for 3%.
The Paraguayan pig producers’ Association (APPC) said that affected by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, many industries in Paraguay have been hit, and the export of pork products has also declined. At the same time, the price of pork products in the United States, Brazil and other countries is highly competitive, seizing the market of Paraguay. Not only the export of pork products from Paraguay has declined, but other countries in Latin America are also experiencing a similar situation.
APPC stressed that to increase the export of Paraguay’s pork products, it is necessary to develop new export markets. At present, Ecuador has expressed its intention to purchase pork products from Paraguay, and the two countries are designing trade transportation routes. In addition, in May this year, Taiwan sent commissioners to inspect the hygiene of pork in Paraguay, which is currently waiting for permission to enter the Taiwan market.
