  Food Partner Network News Recently, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Market Supervision Administration announced the 14th phase of food safety supervision sampling information. Among the 587 batches of 5 food samples of condiments, meat products, beverages, pastries and edible agricultural products, 6 batches of samples were found to be unqualified.
   Among the unqualified samples, one batch of drinking water found that bromate did not meet the national food safety standards.    Bromate is a by-product produced by ozone disinfection of various natural water sources such as mineral water and mountain spring water.”Drinking Natural Mineral Water” (GB 8537-2018) stipulates that the detected value of bromate in drinking natural mineral water should be less than 0.01mg/L. Under normal circumstances, water does not contain bromate, but generally contains bromide. The reason for the excessive bromate may be due to the oxidation of bromide in the water to bromate during ozone disinfection.
   There are also 2 batches of vinegar detected that the total acid (calculated as acetic acid) does not meet the national food safety standards. They are:Tuoli County Dongyang Trading Co., Ltd., the nominal production company address is Urumqi Economic and Technological Development The brewed vinegar produced by Xinjiang Qiyi Sauce Garden Brewing Co., Ltd. at No. 359 Songshan Street, District; and the grain-based vinegar produced by Xinjiang Hotan Mutaipu International Trade Co., Ltd. sold at Yimin Supermarket in Atushi City.
  Total acid is the quality index of vinegar, one of the important characteristic indexes reflecting its characteristics. For brewed vinegar, the higher the acidity, the higher the degree of fermentation, the stronger the sourness of the vinegar, and the better the quality. According to”Brewed Vinegar” (GB/T 18187-2000), the minimum limit of total acid in solid-fermented vinegar and liquid-fermented vinegar is 3.50g/100mL.
   In addition, there are also 2 batches of unqualified pastries, namely:those sold by Xinjiang Meilian Supermarket Co., Ltd., No. 31 Renmin Road, Karamay City, Xinjiang, and produced by Urumqi Yongfengxiang Food Co., Ltd. Mung bean sandwich cakes (fried pastries) detected dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt (calculated as dehydroacetic acid) do not meet the national food safety standards; It is said that the residual amount of aluminum (dry sample, calculated as Al) detected by the Atu Egg Food and Beverage Processing Plant in Hotan City does not meet the national food safety standards.
  Dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt, as a broad-spectrum food preservative, have strong inhibitory ability to mold and yeast.”National Food Safety Standard Food Additives Use Standard” (GB 2760-2014) stipulates that the maximum limit value of dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt in cakes is 0.5g/kg. Dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt can be completely absorbed by the human body, and can inhibit a variety of oxidases in the human body. Long-term excessive intake of dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt can harm human health.
   Potassium aluminum sulfate (also known as potassium alum) and aluminum ammonium sulfate (also known as ammonium alum) are commonly used leavening agents and stabilizers in food processing, and aluminum residues are produced after use.”National Food Safety Standard Food Additives Use Standard” (GB 2760-2014) stipulates that the maximum limit value of aluminum residue (dry sample, calculated as Al) in cakes is 100mg/kg.
   In addition to the above products, there is also 1 batch of unqualified samples:Nitrite detected in lean pork (bacon) sold by Korla Yuzhiwan Aquatic Products Store and produced by Zhang Yougang Meat Processing Factory in Korla ( Sodium nitrite (calculated as sodium nitrite) and sorbic acid and its potassium salt (calculated as sorbic acid) do not meet the requirements of national food safety standards.
   For the unqualified foods found in the random inspection, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Market Supervision and Administration Bureau has instructed the relevant local (prefecture, municipal) market supervision departments to immediately organize the disposal work, check the product flow, and take off the shelves to recall the substandard products, etc. Measures are taken to control risks; violations of laws and regulations shall be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law; risk prevention and control measures and verification and handling conditions shall be announced to the public in a timely manner.
