“Shandong Wheat Illustrated Book” compilation expert group meeting held in Jinan

   On April 11, the”Shandong Wheat Illustrated Book” (Volume Two:Breeding Varieties) compilation expert group meeting was held in Jinan. The meeting reviewed and revised the contents of the”Preparation Instructions” of the graphic book one by one, and divided the tasks of the draft content of the graphic book. Researcher Liu Jianjun and Researcher Chu Xiusheng of the Institute of Crop Research, Professor Li Sishen of Shandong Agricultural University, Researcher Lv Jianhua of Shandong Seed Management Station, Researcher Ju Zhengchun, Shandong Agricultural Technology Extension Station, Researcher Jiang Hongming, Yantai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Wu Ke, Tai’an Academy of Agricultural Sciences Researchers and members of the wheat germplasm innovation and utilization team of Crop Institute participated in the meeting. The meeting was chaired by researcher Huang Chengyan from the Institute of Crop Research.
  ”Shandong Wheat Illustrated Book” (Volume 1:Local Varieties) was published and distributed by China Agriculture Press in April 2016. It contains a total of 459 local wheat varieties in Shandong Province. The forthcoming”Shandong Wheat Illustrated Book” (Volume Two:Breeding Varieties) contains 216 that were bred by Shandong breeding units (persons) from 1931 to 2018, and passed the Shandong Provincial (recognized) or nationally approved 216 Several wheat varieties, including the Taishan wheat variety, which enjoys the reputation of”Taishan topping”, and the meritorious varieties popularized and applied on a large scale in production, such as Lumai 1, Lumai 14, Jinan 13, Yannong 19, Jimai 22, etc. Wheat 22 has the largest planting area in the country for 9 consecutive years, with a total of over 300 million mu. The series of wheat variety brands such as”Jimai”,”Shannong”,”Yanong”,”Tykemai”, and”Hemai” have formed so far, which have consolidated the foundation for innovation in Shandong wheat seed industry and made great contributions to safeguarding national food security.
   The book uses pictures and texts to provide an objective and true description of the source of wheat varieties, characteristics, quality data, genetic information, and production applications. Use the 50K breeder chip to scan the genetic information of the variety to clarify the gene type. In order to obtain high-quality pictures, images of the plots, individual plants, ears, and grains of the varieties were collected for 5 years. This book not only promotes the great achievements of wheat breeding in Shandong Province, but also provides a wealth of reference and reference for the continuous improvement of subsequent wheat varieties.
