Peru’s Ministry of Production sets a quota for this year’s giant squid fishing

   News from SeafoodMedia on April 8, according to Ministerial Resolution No. 00097-2021-Produce, the Peruvian Ministry of Production has determined that the fishing quota for giant squid (Dosidicus gigas) in 2021 is 580,000 tons.

  This quota is the maximum fishing limit for giant squid, and will be adjusted at any time according to the biological fishing process and environmental factors.
  The Peruvian Ministry of Production stated that fishing activities will be terminated on December 31 this year, regardless of whether the quota is fulfilled.
  The Peruvian Institute of Oceanography will supervise and manage the status of the main biological populations and fishing conditions, and propose management measures during the fishing process of giant squid.
