My scientist discovered for the first time an important gene that can reduce the pathogenicity of African swine fever virus

   Recently, the Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Emerging Epidemiology Innovation Team of the Lanzhou Institute of Veterinary Medicine, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the ectoparasites and arbovirus team have made important progress in the pathogenicity research of African swine fever virus, and it is the first time to find knockout MGF- The 110-9L gene African swine fever virus has reduced pathogenicity to pigs. Relevant research results were published in”Chinese Virology (Virologica Sinica)”.
   In this study, an African swine fever virus MGF-110-9L gene deletion strain was constructed. When experimental pigs were challenged separately with the wild strain, all animals challenged by the wild virus and their cohabiting animals died on the 15th day; For animals challenged with MGF-110-9L gene deletion, 60%of the animals survived 21 days later. The blood toxins and tissues of the animals infected with the deletion virus were significantly less than those of the wild virus. The tissues and organs of the surviving animals infected with the deletion virus were normal, indicating that the African swine fever MGF-110-9L gene virus is an important molecule that the virus attenuates.
