EU releases pesticide residue control plan for 2022-2024

   On April 14, 2021, the Official Journal of the European Union issued Regulation (EU) No. 2021/601, which will take effect on January 1, 2022.

   The regulation establishes a pesticide residue control plan for 2022-2024 to ensure compliance with the highest levels of pesticide residues, and to evaluate consumer pesticide residues in foods of plant and animal origin.
  The main content of the regulations is:
  1. During the period from 2022 to 2024, member states should sample and analyze pesticide/product combination samples in accordance with Annex I. The number of samples for each product, including infant food and organic agricultural products, should be specified in Annex II;
   2. The batches to be sampled should be randomly selected. The sampling procedure (including the number of units) shall comply with Directive 2002/63/EC. All samples, including samples for infant food and organic agricultural products, should be analyzed in accordance with the residue content specified in Regulation (EC) 396/2005. For foods for infants and young children, the maximum residues specified in Directives 2006/126/EC, 2006/141/EC and (EU) 2016/127 should be taken into consideration, and you should be prepared according to the recommended ready-to-eat products or according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Sample evaluation of finished products;
  3. Member States shall submit the analysis results of the samples tested in 2022, 2023 and 2024 before August 31, 2023, 2024 and 2025 respectively. These results shall be submitted in the electronic report format prescribed by the Administration.
   4. Repeal the Implementation Regulation (EU) 2020/585, but the samples tested in 2021 will continue to apply until September 1, 2022.
