Egypt intends to revise the standards for detecting rancidity in meat, poultry and fish and its products

   On April 13, 2021, the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality issued the G/SPS/N/EGY/121 notice, which intends to revise the detection of rancidity in meat, poultry, fish and their products. Main revised content:

  (1) The decree deletes items related to the percentage of thiosulfuric acid in the Egyptian meat standard, according to the”Animal Fat Nomenclature Standards” No. 211/1999 revised in 2009, 2013, 2015 and 2019 The content of peroxide and acid value mentioned in the standard is used to detect rancidity in meat, poultry and its products;
   (2) Detect the rancidity of fish and its products according to the peroxide value and anisidine value mentioned in the Codex Standard CXS329-2017″Fish Oil Standard”;
  (3) The decree gives producers and importers a 6-month transition period to comply with the decree. The deadline for comments is June 12, 2021.
