ABC reported that Port Lincoln Tuna Processors (PLTP), a canned tuna producer on the Eyre Peninsula in Australia, will cease all operations in mid-June, and more than 100 workers face unemployment.
After completing the last existing order, PLTP will no longer receive new business. Mario Valcic, general manager of PLTP, stated:”The business environment in South Australia is full of challenges. In the face of the dramatic changes in the new crown epidemic, we are struggling to maintain the company’s operations.”
PLTP was established in 1973 and is the only local tuna processing company in Australia in the last ten years. Due to the decline in international competitiveness, PLTP’s canned food orders have been severely lost since 2010, and the company has begun to engage in the processing of baby food, gravy, fruit puree, custard and other products, gradually moving away from the tuna industry.
