According to a report by the main Tanzanian media”Guardian” on February 16, the Minister of Agriculture of Tanzania, Adolf Mkenda, said on the 15th when inspecting sugar production in Morogoro Province , Sugar import licenses will be issued normally in 2021, but from 2022, unless the Sugar Industry Commission deems it necessary, the Tanzanian government will no longer issue import licenses. He pointed out that the current sugar import system established by Tanzania is not beneficial, and local sugar processing plants need to increase production to meet domestic sugar demand. The problem of sugar shortage in Tanzania is not because of the lack of sugar cane, but the limited processing capacity of sugar factories. To ensure sugar supply, the Ministry of Agriculture will encourage farmers to use high-quality sugar cane seeds and promote irrigation techniques, and encourage the construction of more sugar factories.
