On March 23, 2021, the Korean Ministry of Food and Drugs (MFDS) issued a report to refute the media’s false reports on the safety of imported Chinese kimchi, and clarified the Korean media’s report on”imported Chinese kimchi food is not safe” in March this year.

MFDS stated that it has been communicating necessary with China through the South Korean Embassy in China, and plans to hold a video conference with China on March 24, 2021 to discuss the implementation of HACCP certification for imported kimchi and strengthen the hygiene management of kimchi production enterprises. The video that has recently caused controversy has received an official reply from the General Administration of Customs of China, which is called”products exported through informal channels.” MFDS has requested the relevant departments of the Chinese government to conduct sanitary management of kimchi production enterprises exported to South Korea and provide relevant information. I deeply regret the negative reports from the media and ask the media to provide more detailed information.
