According to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), on March 20, 2021, the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality of the Netherlands reported to OIE that an H5N4 highly pathogenic A Type flu epidemic.
The outbreak occurred in Harlingen, Friesland, and it was confirmed on March 4, 2021. The source of the epidemic is unknown or uncertain. Laboratory testing revealed that one white-rumped curlew was ill and died.
The epidemic is still continuing, and the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality will submit a follow-up report every week.
