Ukraine’s agroportal website reported on February 20 that Ukraine’s potato production volume ranked among the top five in the world, ranking fourth, second only to China, India and Russia. Per capita consumption ranks second in the world, second only to Belarus. Ukrainians consume 139 kilograms of potatoes per person per year, while the world average is 33 kilograms.
According to reports, Ukraine’s potato production reached 20.9 million tons in 2020, an increase of 2.9%year-on-year. The sown area of potatoes also increased by 1.3%compared to 2019, reaching 1.325 million hectares. In 2020, Ukraine imported 301,700 tons of potatoes, a year-on-year increase of 20%. Mainly from Belarus (44%), the Netherlands (20%) and Russia (12%).
