Yonhap News Agency, Seoul, February 5th. According to data released by the Korea Animal Products Quality Evaluation Institute on the 5th, the retail price of a pallet of eggs (30 pieces) on the 4th was 7432 won (approximately RMB 42.8), compared with last February and this year. The average level in January rose 43.3%and 21.6%respectively.

After the retail price of eggs in a pallet reached 6027 won on the 6th of last month, it exceeded 7000 won on the 28th of the same month. The wholesale price of eggs on that day approached 6000 won, which was 5955 won. Due to the continuous spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza, 13.394 million laying hens have been culled on the farms involved in the epidemic, causing egg prices to skyrocket.
The South Korean government said a few days ago that it will import 20 million eggs before the Spring Festival and 24 million eggs in the months after the holiday. If the demand for eggs does not change, it will further expand the amount of eggs imported. (End)
