Taiwan region formulates restrictions on the use and labeling of holly leaves

   On February 4, 2021, the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Taiwan issued the Weishoushizi Announcement No. 1091304732, formulating restrictions on the use and labeling of Ilexguayusa, a food ingredient. The main contents of the formulation are:

   (1) After the wintergreen leaves are dried, they can be used as the raw material for tea brewing;
   (2) Foods that use the aforementioned holly leaves as raw materials must be marked with the warning word”Children, pregnant women and breastfeeders should avoid eating”.
   The announcement will take effect from the date of publication.
