South Korea’s imports of health functional foods increase

  Food Partner Network News On February 5, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of South Korea announced that:From 2018 to 2020, the import volume of imported health functional foods in South Korea increased by 21.4%annually. It accounts for 33.8%of Korea’s domestic health functional food market (based on 2019).
   Import status:13,531 tons in 2018 → 16,066 tons in 2019 → 19,825 tons in 2020.
  The top five countries in terms of import volume are:the United States, China, Germany, Canada, and India → account for 78.3%of the total import volume (2020).
  The analysis results of healthy functional foods (including raw materials) declared through the integrated food system show that the top products imported in the last three years are:complex nutrient products, oligofructose, fats containing EPA and DHA, Five products including nutrient and functional composite products and protein products (based on 2020) accounted for 59.0%of the total imports.
