South Korea’s imports of frozen Pacific cod increase by 3%year-on-year in 2020

   News from FiS on February 2 that in December 2020, South Korea imported 2,662 tons of frozen Pacific cod, which was a 25%decrease from 3,545 tons in the same period in 2019. The import volume last year was 19,124 tons, an increase of 3%from the previous year’s 18,596 tons.

   The average import volume of frozen cod from 2015 to December 2020 was 1877 tons, and in December 2020 it was 2662 tons, an increase of 42%.
   South Korea imports frozen cod mainly from Russia, the United States, China, Canada, and Norway. 90%of frozen Pacific cod comes from Russia, about 17,191 tons, 7%from the United States, and 2%from China.
   The United States has the highest price of frozen Pacific cod at US$2.73 per kilogram, followed by Russian cod at US$2.61, and China has the lowest price at US$1.55.
   The import value of frozen Pacific cod in December was US$6.41 million, a year-on-year decrease of 40%.
