Mexico’s agricultural exports hit a new high in 2020

Mexico’s”Economist” reported on January 4 that, according to statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics of Mexico, from January to October 2020, the total export value of Mexican agricultural and agro-industrial products was 32.571 billion pesos, an increase of 4.2%year-on-year, a record of the same period since 1993 new highs. From January to November, exports of Mexican avocados totaled 1.2197 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 6.3%, the highest value ever recorded by the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture, and a three-fold increase in the past decade. However, in terms of prices, the total export value of black avocados from January to November was 2.698 billion pesos, a year-on-year decrease of 7.4%. Since 1997, the United States has been the largest export market for Mexican products. In 2018, Americans consumed 8 pounds of avocado per capita, a significant increase from 3.5 pounds in 2008.

   In addition, according to statistics from the Inter-American Development Bank, Mexico’s total foreign product exports in 2020 will decrease by 13%year-on-year, and the total value will decrease by 14.4%.
