“Viet Cong Electronic News” reported on January 11 that the Agricultural Products Market Processing and Development Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam stated that in December 2020, about 330,000 tons of cassava and cassava products were exported, with an export value of about US$118 million; Cumulative exports were 2.76 million tons and US$989 million, up 9%and 2.4%year-on-year respectively. In 2020, the export price of cassava and cassava products in Vietnam is about 358.3 US dollars/ton, down 6%year-on-year.
China is Vietnam’s largest cassava export market. Vietnam’s exports to this market amounted to 1.9 million tons and US$772 million, up 11.5%and 2.7%year-on-year respectively. In the first 11 months of 2020, Taiwan and Malaysia are also the fastest growing markets for imports of Vietnamese cassava and its products.
In terms of product structure, Vietnam will export about 640,000 tons of cassava chips in 2020, with an export value of 139 million U.S. dollars, and the volume and value will increase by 60%and 75%year-on-year respectively. The average export price of cassava chips was US$217/ton, an increase of 10%from the US$198/ton in 2019. The export volume of cassava starch was 2.1 million tons, and the export value was US$850 million. The quantity and value were down 1%and 4%respectively year-on-year. The export price of cassava starch was US$401/ton, down 4%year-on-year.
