Chile releases draft import hygiene requirements for pre-processed foods containing animal-derived ingredients

   On January 6, 2021, the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture issued the Consultation Document No. 1 of 2021 to solicit opinions on the draft”Import Hygiene Requirements for Pre-processed Food Containing Animal-derived Ingredients”. The main contents of the draft include:

  1. Product definition and scope of application (containing ingredients from cattle, sheep, pigs or poultry, heat-treated products for human consumption, excluding canned food and products processed by UHT process);
  2. It is stipulated that when the above products are imported into Chile, a bilingual health certificate (language and Spanish of the exporting country) issued by the competent authority of the exporting country shall be provided;
  3. The health certificate must indicate the product name, weight, transportation temperature, production date, shelf life, manufacturer information, etc.; the certification part should also confirm the processing technology of products containing different animal-derived ingredients (including processing temperature , Time, water activity, PH and other parameters), the epidemic situation of the source animal, and the qualification of the manufacturer meet the requirements of Chilean official;

  4. Specifies the packaging, labeling and transportation requirements of the product.
