Food Partner Network News, on the afternoon of January 8, 2021, the Chinese Society for Food Science and Technology, under the guidance of the China Association for Science and Technology, will host the 2020 Food Safety and Health Hotspot Scientific Interpretation Media Communication Conference. At the meeting, Professor Ding Gangqiang, vice chairman of the Chinese Society of Food Science and Technology and director of the Nutrition and Health Institute of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, shared the hot issues of”Immunity-Consumers’ Primary Health Needs in the Post-epidemic Era”.
Hot spot 4:Immunity-the primary health needs of consumers in the post-epidemic era
Professor Ding Gangqiang
Vice President of China Society of Food Science and Technology
Director of Nutrition and Health Institute, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention
Dear leaders, experts, and friends from the media, I have been commissioned by the Chinese Society of Food Science and Technology to explain the situation of immunity.
Of course, immunity is not only related to the epidemic, but more importantly, health. So what is the concept of immunity? Our State Administration for Market Regulation explained in the”Health Function Interpretation (2020 Edition) (Draft for Comment)” in November 2020 that immunity refers to the body’s ability to defend externally and maintain a stable response to the internal environment, which is affected by many factors. The immune system is the key to whether human immunity is strong. The immune system is composed of immune organs, immune cells and immune active substances.
The human immune system has three main lines of defense:one is the skin and mucous membranes, the other is the bactericidal substances and phagocytes in the body, and the third is the immune organs and immune cells.
A good immune system is essential to survival. Once the human immune system declines, the human body is very susceptible to viral infections and cause various diseases.
It may be unavoidable for everyone to improve immunity. Dietary nutrition is the material basis to ensure the normal operation of the human immune system. Adhering to a balanced diet and achieving a good nutritional status are the basis and guarantee for enhancing the body’s immunity. No one kind of food can provide all the nutrients that the human body needs. Diversified food can obtain balanced nutrition. If some of the micronutrients cannot be obtained from the diet, nutrient supplements can be selected under the guidance of professionals.
In the post-epidemic era, we also propose that the food industry will play an important role in meeting the health needs of consumers for improving immunity. During the epidemic, due to the limited food choices of consumers in some areas, insufficient intake of vitamins, minerals, plant-based high-quality protein, and essential fatty acids became prominent, and the risk of malnutrition increased. The food industry is an important carrier to meet consumers’ nutritional and health needs. After years of health transformation, foods that meet the nutritional and health needs of different groups of people continue to emerge, provide effective support for the nutrition and health of residents in the epidemic, and accurately connect consumers to improve immunity and health Demand plays an irreplaceable role in maintaining and promoting the health of the immune system.
So we also put forward expert suggestions through the media communication meeting:
First, strengthen basic theoretical research, and further clear the path of achievement transformation. Technology and industry should further strengthen basic theoretical research, gradually clarify the regulation mechanism of food nutrition and health on the immune function of the body, and analyze the functional components and their targets. Let basic theoretical research and related food research and development interact up and down, and clear the path of basic research, technological innovation and achievement transformation.
Second, to be guided by national policies and consumer demand, to enhance the ability to provide high-quality food nutrition and health. In the post-epidemic era, foods that help enhance immunity will surely usher in a market opportunity. Given the relatively single type of products at present, companies should adhere to national policies and consumer health needs as the orientation, and continuously improve food nutrition and health with technological innovation High-quality supply capacity to meet the individualized and differentiated needs of different groups of people in terms of nutrition and health.
Third, advocate the healthy concept of balanced nutrition and arrange three meals a day reasonably. Improving immunity is a systematic task, and it is not done overnight, let alone “temporarily embarrassing”. Consumers need to firmly establish a healthy concept of balanced nutrition in their daily lives, and try to achieve a variety of foods, a combination of meat and vegetables, and a mixture of grains and beans. , Taking care of both egg and milk, sufficient fruits and vegetables to ensure a reasonable supply of protein, fat, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins. In addition, it needs to be emphasized that in addition to a reasonable diet, you should also pay attention to ensuring adequate sleep, exercise moderately and maintain a relaxed mental state. Lifestyle and psychological factors are also important factors affecting immunity.
